MotorCycle Checks

As anyone who has ever ridden on a motorcycle knows, there's nothing quite like riding a motorcycle - the thrill of being right in the scenery, the feel of the wind, the power of the bike.

Motorcycles are most affordable and common type of motor vehicle. Daily, approximately 200 million motorcycles (including mopeds, motor scooters, motorized bicycles, and other powered two and three-wheelers) are in use worldwide, most of them in Asia.

The first motorcycle called “Daimler Reitwagen” (riding wagon) was designed by the German inventors Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach in Bad Cannstatt, Germany in 1885. Ten years later German manufacturer Hildebrand & Wolfmüller started the first motorcycle mass production factory. With production of over 20,000 bikes per year, the largest motorcycle manufacturer until World War I was Indian. In the years before the World War II Harley-Davidson and DKW took over as the largest manufacturers. By 1950s, the honor went to BSA Group, with production of 75,000 bikes per year. From 1955 until the 1970s, German company NSU, known for their most advanced design, held the position of largest manufacturer.

Today, images of motorcycles are practically everywhere and Japanese companies such as Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha are dominating the motorcycle industry. The popularity of motorcycles among people from all walks of life has exploded over the past 20 years and the shows like American Chopper have brought motorcycles to the small screen. Motorcycles have become popular even among politicians, including Sarah Palin and Russia’s Vladimir Putin, who even made their entrances on them.
